The weather looked to be fine, and the winter has been long, so I took a little ’round the Peninsula motorcycle ride to celebrate. Map.
I took a few photographs along the way, but spent most of the time just enjoying the ride.
It has been many years since I visited Lake Crescent, and the water was beautifully clear and glassy.
Refreshments were due the bike and rider in Forks, where I found a huge apple fritter and some organic produce to munch on. Outside of Forks, the roads twist nicely, and the scoot banked nicely through the turns.
Ruby Beach provided a place to stop for a few minutes. Long straight stretches of pavement followed, and with the road often built into highway cuts and bounded on both sides by trees, one has a feeling of driving in a canyon…a canyon that smells of the sea.
The beaches at Kalaloch were almost devoid of people, but I didn’t stop, as a few rain squalls were hanging about.
A combination of some kind of police action in Hoquaim, plus detours caused by bridge work, made getting through Hoquaim quite slow. Detour signage was less than explicit, and I took a wrong turn. Getting across the bridge took nearly 30 minutes.
More refreshments in Aberdeen, and then a stop in Montesano to visit a friend. From there, back roads back to Shelton to finish the day a little tired but in a different mental rhythm than before.

Wish I could have been there!
The lake looks absolutely beautiful!
