Five bridges in Puget Sound

Passing under five bridges eight times in a week isn’t something I had planned to do, but it was remarkably fun. This was to be a test trip for a possible Northwest Potters group sail to Tacoma, but my experience in Tacoma wasn’t as positive as I had hoped it would be.

Oiling teak and sealing leaks

It’s springtime, and that means time to get Whisper ready for sailing. Oiling teak, sealing leaks, buffing scratch marks and a bit of varnishing will fill the bill this spring. At the end of 2006 I noticed two leaks. The portside teak strip that guides the sliding hatch had a leak, and the portside v-berth portlight also leaked.

"October Frost" trip to Kingston

Grey. Cool. A light breeze. The conditions as I prepared to pull out of my driveway came as no surprise for a Puget Sound fall day. With Whisper in tow, I left Shelton at 9 am, arriving in Brownsville just after 10 am. Ubi Ignis Est arrived soon after, and Jim began rigging at the boat launch while I raised the mast and attached the myriad pins, rings, lines and hoses in the parking lot.
